Types of Paper Shredders

All shredders are not the same, despite what you may have heard. Hey, if you are like me, I know you think that shredding completely destroys documents, but trust me, this is not always true. Today’s technology has made it possible to un-shred documents that were shredded by most types of household shredders. The security of your shredded documents depends on the kind of shredder that you use as well as the execution of the shredding process itself. Residential shredders may not offer the kind of security that the industrial ones come with.   1. Desk-side Shredders Desk-side shredders are entry level shredders, which are used at homes and offices and are quite compact.   3. Strip-Cut Shredders Strip cut shredders cut the paper into very thin strips varying in size from 1/2 -inch wide to 1/6-inch wide. With the ability to make fewer cuts than the crosscut shredders, they are able to go through more documents at a time than the cross cut shredders (of the same class).

  4. Cross-Cut Shredders As the name indicates, these types of shredders work, in a criss cross motion, shredding the paper into tiny pieces from 3/8-inch x 3-1/8-inch to 1/32-inch x 1/2-inch. On account of all the extra cutting, the cross cut shredders do not shred documents as quickly as the strip cut shredders [of the same class] but as they are able to shred into smaller pieces, they provide security to such shredded documents. And in addition, as the pieces are less, they take up less space therefore less cleaning to do.

  5. Departmental/Heavy Duty Shredders Departmental/heavy duty shredders can easily handle high frequency of shredding with ease. These shredders are the most compatible for offices, banks and government agencies and can shred anywhere from five to 60 sheets at a time depending on the model.

  6. Industrial Shredders Industrial shredders are made for high volume shredding and can handle anywhere from 11 to 450 sheets of paper at a time. These shredders are manufactured for continuous daily use and are usually used by big companies or ones that handle outsourced shredding. These shredders are quite compact and can easily transform a bail of paper into shredded paper resembling a bail of hay.

  7. Cardboard Shredders Cardboard shredders shred broken down boxes and other kinds of hard material into packaging material. Shipping businesses, warehouses and packaging companies use these shredders to transform old boxes into a free cache of large-volume filler material that is suitable for transporting fragile goods.
